The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 auction is likely to be held on February 11. According to the information available, the IPL has also set January 21 as the deadline for the eight franchises to submit the lists of retained and released players. IPL Governing Council met on Monday. The decision of the venue of the auction still stays pending.

“Nothing has been officially discussed about the base price as yet. But during the BCCI AGM we discussed the matter informally. Ownership of the IPL team is now a very prized asset and we feel the base price for the new IPL team will be nothing less than 1500 CR or probably more,” a BCCI official told.

Will it be mega auctions or mini auctions?

It is final now that no mega auction will be conducted for the 14th edition of IPL (IPL 2021). Instead, BCCI will conduct the mini-auctions. The full-fledged mega-player auctions will now be conducted for IPL 2022 once the two new teams are on board next year.

‘Full auction will not be possible this time because of time constraints and other issues. Rather we will conduct mini-auctions where franchises can bid for a few new players. The dates of the auctions and other things are still to be decided’, a BCCI official told.

How can franchises retain players in IPL 2021 mini-auction?

It is worth noting that franchises had only contract till IPL 2020 with the existing set of players. Before the mini-auction BCCI and franchises will complete contractual formalities with those players whom teams would like to retain for IPL 2021 season.

How the IPL 2021 auctions will work? 

– IPL 2021 Auctions will not be MEGA Auction – but it will be Mini-Auctions
– Each franchise will submit a list of released and retained players by Jan 20th
– The purse for the mini-auction will be dependent on the fact that how much monies the teams are left with after deciding on the retained players

The pandemic situation is yet to fully improve and that is the reason IPL GC will wait for some more time to decide on the venue of IPL 14th.   is yet to decide whether IPL 2021 will take place in India or once again it will be played at a foreign location.

The IPL GC headed by Brijesh Patel has decided that they will wait to see the situation during Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 before deciding on the venue of IPL 2021.

IPL 2021: BCCI is yet to announce the dates for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 14th edition. However, the latest England tour of India schedule has given a hint of when it IPL 2021 can start from. IPL 2021 is most likely to start from the 2nd week of April.

IPL 2019 started on 23rd March and vis a vis – IPL 2021 will be delayed by minimum of 2 weeks owing to the two-month-long England tour of India which will conclude on March 28th.
