Cricket: Under the leadership of Anil Kumble, Team India won five Test series in a year (2016-17). India won 12 out of 17 test matches while losing only one match.
Anil Kumble, who left his post 4 years ago due to differences with captain Virat Kohli, may become the head coach of the Indian cricket team. The tenure of the current coach Ravi Shastri will end after the T20 World Cup. In such a situation, the Sourav Ganguly-led Board of Cricket in India (BCCI) can ask Kumble to apply for the post of head coach. Kumble was the coach of the Indian team in 2016-17. He was appointed coach in place of Shastri by the Cricket Advisory Committee headed by Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman and Ganguly. But his differences with Kohli came to the fore after the loss to Pakistan in the Champions Trophy final. After this Kumble resigned from his post.
Apart from Kumble, the BCCI can also contact Laxman, who has been associated with the Indian Premier League team Sunrisers Hyderabad for the last few years. Despite this, Kumble will remain a strong contender for the coach’s post. BCCI’s first choice is the Indian coach and Kumble has coaching experience apart from playing more than 100 Test matches. Kumble is associated with Punjab Kings in IPL.
Kumble leads India to victory in five consecutive test series
Kumble became the head coach of the Indian cricket team on 23 June 2016. Team India performed brilliantly in the Test series against West Indies under the command of Anil Kumble as soon as he became the coach. India won the first test against West Indies by an innings of 92 runs. The second Test ended in a draw while India won the third match by 237 runs to win the series 2-0. After that won 3-0 against New Zealand in the home Test series. At the same time, in the ODI series too, Team India defeated the Kiwis 3-2. Team India defeated England 4-0 on the tour of India. The Indian team won the ODI and T20 series against England by 2-1.
After this, Bangladesh was also defeated in the only test. Now it was the turn to beat Australia and Kumble proved successful in that too. Team India defeated Kangaroos 2-1. Under Kumble’s coaching, Team India won five Test series in a year. India won 12 out of 17 test matches while losing only one test.
In view of this record of Kumble, BCCI wants to bet on him again. BCCI sources said, “There is a need to improve the circumstances under which Anil Kumble stepped down. The way the CoA (Committee of Administrators) came under pressure from Kohli and Kumble was dropped was not right. However, it will also depend on whether Kumble is willing to apply for this post or not.
